American popstar Halsey revealed on Tuesday that she has been privately battling chronic illnesses. The news came in a heartfelt Instagram post, timed with the release of her new single “The End,” a song from her upcoming fifth album.
In her Instagram post, she did not specify her exact diagnosis first. However, she later came up with another post, where she admitted that she has been suffering from Lupus, which is a chronic autoimmune disease that can damage various parts of the body, while leukemia and lymphoma are cancers affecting blood cells and the immune system.
“Long story short, I’m lucky to be alive. Short story long, I wrote an album,” Halsey wrote in her caption.

The post included videos showing moments from her health journey, such as receiving hospital infusions and recording “The End” while playing the guitar. In one clip, Halsey, 29, rubs her calves and groans, saying, “I feel like an old lady.”
“I told myself I’m giving myself two more years to be sick,” she continued. “[When] I’m 30, I’m having a rebirth and I’m not gonna be sick and I’m gonna look super hot and have lots of energy, and I’m just gonna get to re-do my 20s in my 30s.”
She later posted another post reflecting her gratitude for the new single and sharing her health problems that she has been facing for a long time- “Thank you guys for the unbelievable amount of love for “The End” and the support you’ve shown me since its release. I realize everyone is catching up with news I’ve held in for a very long time, and I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to share. You’ve all been so kind so I want to share a bit more. In 2022,
She further said. “I was first diagnosed with Lupus SLE and then a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Both of which are currently being managed or in remission; and both of which I will likely have for the duration of my life. After a rocky start, I slowly got everything under control with the help of amazing doctors. After 2 years, I’m feeling better and I’m more grateful than ever to have music to turn to. I can’t wait to get back where I belong: With you all ? Singing and screaming my heart out.”
Her new song touches on her experiences with illness, opening with the verse: “Every couple of years now, a doctor says I’m sick / Pulls out a brand new bag of tricks / And then they lay it on me.”
