The annual DJ Mag Top 100 DJ list, as voted by EDM fans, has just been released, with Dutch DJ and producer, and recent visitor to Australia, Hardwell scoring the top position for a second consecutive year.
In 2013 Hardwell became the youngest-ever winner of the award, taking the crown from five-time winner Armin Van Buuren who himself dropped to third place in 2014, though still was named as the highest ranking trance DJ.
Coming in second were Belgian electronic duo and brothers Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike while fourth place was secured by fellow Dutch DJ/producer Martin Garrix. Other names on the top ten list include big names like Tiesto, Avicii, Skrillex and Steve Aoki.
The top polling Australian act on the list were sister duo Nervo, who were named as 21 on the list dropping from last year’s 16th place. Fellow Australians electro-house duo Knife Party also dropped places, having been placed at 53 on the 2014 list compared to 25 in 2013.
For their part the Australian duo don’t seem too hung up on the poll’s actual relevancy. “Oh no, number 53. Surely the next step for us is sucking dick for crack money, and then…a slow fade into irrelevancy,” they tweeted in jest. “I’m one spot above you……I’ll suck your dick for your spot….and some crack?” replied Dillon Francis.
All that may change in the coming year as the duo will shortly release their anticipated debut album, Abandon Ship, followed by a return to their home turf to perform five shows across the country in December 2014. Another notable mention is Culture Club frontman Boy George, who, thanks to some popular DJ sets in 2014, made his debut on the list at number 89.
The results of the 2014 DJ Mag Top 100 were announced at simultaneous parties in Amsterdam and London. See the top 10 in the gallery below, followed by the rest of the list.
