Have Trivium Gone Power Metal On Their New Album ‘Silence In The Snow’?

Soundwave regulars Trivium are back and ready to rip the pin out of some brand new material. The Florida heavy metal (and sort-of metalcore that one time) act have let fly a brand new single and music video for Silence In The Snow, which is coincidentally the title of their forthcoming seventh studio album.

The song itself might polarise fans because… well… it sounds suspiciously like power metal. We’re talking 100% scream-free, with big operatic vocals, triumphant guitars and fantastical lyrics about battle and bloodshed.

Not that that’s a bad thing, you know, if you swing that way. But it’s a very different sound to the balls-out back-to-basics heavy metal we heard on the band’s excellent 2013 album, Vengeance Falls.

As Loudwire points out, vocalist Matt Heafy has actually revealed that the new album’s titular track was originally written for their 2008 album, Shogun.

“This song was written for Shogun, and is basically almost the same as it was, so Shogun fans rejoice; didn’t like Shogun? You may not dig this,” Heafy disclaimer-ed in the comments section of the video.

“But know that since I was 12 I wanted to be a great singer, I screamed because I couldn’t sing. I am proud and excited to finally be able to do what I love the way I love. Don’t love it? Our old stuff still exists. Love it? Awesome. I love both sides of you all regardless.”

Heafy worked closely with Disturbed frontman Dave Draiman, who produced Vengeance Falls, in 2013 to improve his vocal technique after suffering multiple blow-outs from over-screaming.

Trivium’s new disc, Silence In the Snow is due out on October 2nd. The band have yet to release any further details, so we’ll have to wait to find out whether the rest of the album will have a similar sound to its lead track.

In the meantime, you can check out their bloody new video for Silence In the Snow, below.
