Here’s How Many Soundwave Sidewaves We’ll Likely See In 2016

UPDATE 17/12/15 5.50pm: Soundwave 2016 has been officially cancelled.

Soundwave 2016‘s more compact format means we won’t see as many sidewaves next year, and Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah has now revealed just how many sidewaves we’re likely to see in each city.

Replying to an inquisitive punter on Twitter overnight, Maddah said, “My guess would be 3 [sidewaves] in Brisbane, none in Sydney and 4 to 5 in Melbourne.”

When asked if Brisbane or Melbourne’s sidewaves will feature any all ages gigs, Maddah confirmed that there is “definitely” no chance of such gigs taking place. View his full series of tweets, below.

With Soundwave now being held over the space of four days across three cities, less sidewaves are expected for the festival’s 2016 jaunt, and Maddah’s latest comments prove just how few we’re likely to see.

When asked in August about the possibility of Adelaide hosting 2016 sidewaves, Maddah posted to Twitter saying he wasn’t sure if the city would host any at all, and his latest tweets suggest Adelaide, like Sydney, won’t see a single sidewave.

Despite Soundwave’s more compact format, Maddah says festival-goers won’t see any 30 minute sets in 2016. “It’s all about better bands and longer sets,” he says.

Soundwave 2016 will kick off in Brisbane on 23rd January, before making its way to Sydney and Melbourne. The seventh band confirmed for the festival is expected to be announced later today, so stay tuned to Music Feeds for the news as it comes to hand.
