It was only a matter of time before beloved Melbourne alt-soul collective Hiatus Kaiyote performed a highly coveted Tiny Desk, and boy was it worth the wait.
Clocking in at 19 minutes, the live band journey through five songs from their recording studio, The Villa, which they’ve transformed into a gloriously colourful wonderland, complete with costumed characters and a literal tiny desk.
Speaking with NPR, frontwoman Nai Palm spoke on the set they put together, saying she is “a treasure hunter at heart, and the beautiful thing about dressing a set with sentimental artefacts from my house is that I feel super comfy to perform.”
The band perform five cuts from their new record Mood Valiant, out via Flying Lotus’ label Brainfeeder.
They kick things off with the sultry ‘Sip Into Something Soft’, before jumping into ‘Rose Water’, resulting in an absolute masterclass in group performance.
They move into ‘And We Go Gentle’ and ‘Get Sun’, before topping off this glorious, psychedelic experience with ‘Blood And Marrow’.
