How Jimmy Fallon Handled U2’s ‘Tonight Show’ Cancellation

Jimmy Fallon‘s wealth of musical impressions is well documented. He’s taken on all the greats, from Neil Young to Springsteen to Bob Dylan and this week’s show, when U2 left him in the lurch, proved the perfect opportunity for Fallon to unleash his inner Bono.

You see, U2 were supposed to appear on Fallon’s show for a week-long residency, likely to help promote their controversial album Songs Of Innocence, but were forced to cancel after Bono injured himself in a bicycle accident and he needed to undergo surgery.

So, together with his incredible house band The Roots, Fallon donned full Bono getup and took on U2’s 1988 Rattle and Hum track Desire himself. “Bono’s wardrobe is still here because he was going to wear it tonight,” Fallon said. “Obviously he’s not going to need it now. So I thought, let’s have some fun with it.”
