Insane Clown Posse and Psychopathic Records have come good on remarks they have previously made about filing a lawsuit against the FBI. After labeling the group’s following as a ‘non-traditional gang’, the camp have officially filed a lawsuit against the government bureau seeking information as to why their fans were listed as such, which had previously been denied to them despite the Freedom Of Information Act.
Juggalos and Juggalettes or, Lo’s and Lette’s, are words used to describe those who actively follow the rap-metal outfit ICP. Both Lo’s and Lette’s have been included in the FBI’s gang report, which claims the group exhibit gang-like behaviour and commit crimes and violent acts, according to The Huffington Post.
In a statement released through the ICP website, the pair have stated that they had “kept their word and filed a lawsuit against the FBI on behalf of the Juggalo Family”. Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope, who make up the Insane Clown Posse, are quick to denote the ‘gang’ word, but rather referring to their followers as a ‘family’, which you would be family with if you’ve caught The American Juggalo doco depicting the sub-culture.
The pair’s legal team issued a statement on behalf of the outfit and their record label, arguing that the premise of the lawsuit against the FBI stems from “its failure to produce any documentary evidence in support of the FBI’s classification of the group’s fan base, the Juggalos, as a gang in the 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment: Emerging Trends.”
The pair actually raise a very valid point, mentioning “Can we take a fuckin’ second to note that Jimmy Buffet’s Parrot Heads, Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters, Justin Bieber’s Beliebers, the Grateful Dead’s DeadHeads and many more haven’t been labeled as a gang?”
The statement discusses the potential similarities Lo’s and Lette’s would have to gangs such as the running hatchetman tattoo, which avid members will get to show their love for music, not their gang affiliation, “Juggalos are fans of music – not hardened, organized gang members!”
The ball is now in the FBI’s court, who have yet to respond to the lawsuit, but when and if they do, it’s going to be very interesting to see how they handle it. Stay tuned, Woop woop!
