According to organisers, “unforeseen scheduling issues” are the culprit.
And the Brit tunesmith behind ‘Budapest’ has issued an apology to his Aussie fans, saying: “I’m gutted to have to do this at such short notice and apologise to all of you that have bought tickets and were looking forward to it. This was a shit decision to have to make, I hope you understand and you’ll still be there when we come back.”
His sideshows in Sydney & Melbourne are obvs also cancelled for now, with promoters Secret Sounds promising to contact ticket-holders “soon” with more details. They’ve also confirmed that they’re “currently exploring options to reschedule” the shows and will make “a further announcement” next week, so stay tuned.
Sadly, it doesn’t appear as if a new act will be announced to replace Ezra, with the freshly-minted official maps and set times for this year’s fest shuffling some sets around to fill the gap he’s left in the schedule (Peking Duk are shifting to Friday to bring the bangers to fans at the Amphitheatre).
Splendour punters heartbroken by Ezra’s loss can still sell their tickets through the Splendour Resale Facility before 5pm Wednesday, 12th July, or can make do with catching all the other acts on the juggernaut 2017 lineup like Queens Of The Stone Age and The xx, plus newly extended sets from LCD Soundsystem and Sigur Ros on the Sunday.
