Coachella was one of the festivals affected by coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions earlier on in the US, as it was initially slated for commencement in April. The festival soon issued a statement, revealing the event was postponed until October.
Now though, it’s seeming like these large-scale events are pretty much out for the foreseeable future, especially in the United States. Bloomberg has now reported that Coachella is in the process of rescheduling the festival for 2021.
The festival organisers behind Coachella, Goldenvoice, have reportedly been reaching out to artists who were scheduled to perform at this year’s festival, gauging their availability for April 2021. It looks like not every artist on the lineup has been invited to the postponed event though.
The original lineup was seriously huge by the way. Rage Against the Machine, Lana Del Rey, Run the Jewels, Travis Scott, FKA Twigs, Disclosure, Thom Yorke, and Frank Ocean to skim a few off the top.
Bloomberg say that before Goldenvoice can make a formal announcement though, they need to settle their financial and insurance issues. Though as it stands, the plan is currently for 2020 ticket-holders to transfer these to the 2021 event.
“It doesn’t seem likely we are going to open in the fall,” AEG Presents’ (Goldenvoice’s parent company) Jay Marciano told the New York Times on Sunday.
