Jack White’s back and rocking a head of blue hair. Blue is also the dominant colour in the artwork for his new single, ‘Taking Me Back’.
‘Taking Me Back’ is more of a power pop belter than a blues number, mind you. It’s White’s first solo release since his 2018 LP, Boarding House Reach. White recorded and produced the track at Third Man Studios in Nashville and performs all vocals and instruments.
‘Taking Me Back’ is available digitally via Third Man Records, along with an old-timey acoustic version called ‘Taking Me Back (Gently)’. The song premiered in the trailer for the upcoming video game Call of Duty: Vanguard. Footage from the game features in the official lyric video for ‘Taking Me Back’, which you can see below.
White released his debut solo album, Blunderbuss, in 2012; five years after the final White Stripes album, Icky Thump. His second solo effort, Lazaretto, came out in 2014, followed by Boarding House Reach in 2018. In 2019, White reunited with The Raconteurs to release Help Us Stranger. The most recent Dead Weather album, Dodge and Burn, came out in 2015.
White made an appearance on Beyonce’s Lemonade in 2016, as well as A Tribe Called Quest’s We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service. Then, in 2019, he showed up on the track ‘Are We Still Friends?’ from Tyler, the Creator’s Igor.
