Jay-Z Set To Curate ‘The Great Gatsby’ Soundtrack

Whoever said that The Great Gatsby couldn’t get any better definitely didn’t see this coming. In true Baz Luhrmann style, the great director has handed over (most) musical control to none other than the king of Brooklyn, Jay-Z.

J will select, organise and finalise the entire soundtrack, reports The Sun, with Luhrmann’s approval of course. Filmed partly in Sydney, Luhrmann’s adaptation of the 1925 F Scott Fitzgerald novel has already caused a stir – and if the trailer is anything to go by, it’s in for a Golden Globe or two. The distinctively unique hybrid of a traditional mise-en-scene combined with modern music was met with critical approval with his 1999 release of Romeo + Juliet, which featured the likes of Radiohead, Garbage, and several others.

The trailer itself, seen below, already features the Jay Z, Kanye West and Frank Ocean collaboration No Church in the Wild in addition to Jack White’s cover of U2’s track Love Is Blindness.

Curating the soundtrack to this film is just another thing that the man form New York can add to his list of achievements. After helping his brother in arms, Barack Obama, to power, curating his own festival, and raising his daughter, the man of the moment is surely running out of things to do. Regardless of this, we are eagerly awaiting the impending tracklisting. The Great Gatsby is set for release on 10th May next year.
