Encores at shows are pretty much expected nowadays, and engagements are not. At the Eagles of Death Metal show in Fremantle last night, frontman Jesse Hughes took the show in another emotional direction by proposing to girlfriend Tuesday Cross.
According to themusic, Cross – who sometimes helps out with singing and keyboarding duties with the band – was invited out to the front of the stage after the rockers had finished their song Complexity whence Hughes dropped to one knee and took out a ring.
With a generous and raucous reception of the crowd, Cross said “yes” and was reportedly seen in the wings of the stage for the rest of the set sobbing and on the phone, ostensibly calling relatives to spread the good word.
Rather interestingly, this doesn’t seem to be the first time Hughes has proposed to Cross as an Instagram dated to 2 weeks ago (at the time of writing) shows the two embraced in a romantic locale with the caption “I asked Tuesday to marry me……she said YES!”. Still though, a moment like this warrants repeating.
Being a devout Christian – he was ordained by the Universal One Church as a minister just over 3 years ago – who takes his faith “very seriously”, marriage means a lot to Hughes, and he’s previously said that “divorce isn’t a concept to me”. Which is an interesting position coming from a man who has also once said “tight pants are critical to sexy dancing”.
