Fresh off the back from her debut season as a coach on The Voice, Jessica Mauboy has reminded everyone why she’s one of the best in the business with her stirring new single ‘Glow’.
Her first release on Warner Music Australia, the song is a smooth summer jam perfect for both a hazy road trip or sweaty dance floor, reminiscent of the likes of Kaytranada or Anderson .PAAK. Check it out below, via the stunning video Directed by Ribal Hosn and styled by Jessica Dos Remedios.
Lyrically exploring the struggles faced by the singer after a period of tough personal growth, the song is an ode to not holding back and “realising potential.”
“I got tired of being a ‘yes person’,” said Mauboy in a statement on the song.
“Mentally, it was self-destructive: my body and my mind were saying, Hey, you gotta really take care of yourself.
“Glow stems from realising it’s okay to stop, zoom out and start over fresh. I really wanted to capture that sense of knowing myself. Glow is my confidence song; It’s my reminder that I’m where I need to be, that I’m just being. And that’s okay.”
Mauboy tapped some quality collaborators for the single, with both George Maple and Cosmo’s Midnight lending their writing chops to the creation.
“I had all the in-depth thoughts while writing ‘Glow’, but also I just felt sparkly,” adds Mauboy.
“I felt new. I felt rebooted. And I wanted it to feel like you’ve known this song forever.
“Glow came from a place of being in love with myself. And I think everyone has, through these past two years, had time to understand what and who they are. When it does get quiet, you hear and see yourself a little bit more.”
While there’s no news of a full release (yet), you can be sure the tune will feature at Mauboy’s upcoming ‘Boss Lady’ tour dates for 2022. Details below and ticket info here.
