Jimmy Barnes is back for young and old with a run of all ages national tour dates in support of his forthcoming album Soul Searchin’, the final and definitive edition of The Soul Series.
Kicking off in Adelaide on Friday, 12th August, the tour will travel through Perth, the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Melbourne and finish up in Sydney on Saturday, 27th August.
Barnsey has been on a road to discovering his musical roots under the banner of the Soul Series since 1991 when he released the first instalment Soul Deep. Part two, Soul Deeper came nearly a decade later in 2001 and the third part, The Rhythm and the Blues in 2009.
Recorded in Nashville, Soul Searchin’ is said to be the most important addition to the series, containing within gems, oddities and curiosities. Barnsey was joined in the studio by some of the great soul musicians of all time. From Otis Redding/Sam & Dave/The Blues Brothers collaborator Steve Cropper to songwriter and producer Dan Penn and of course the legendary Memphis Brothers.
Says Barnsey of the news:
“The idea was to find more obscure soul songs that people may not have heard – the diamonds in the rough. I was just looking and looking for songs that for one reason or another were skipped over or they were too hard for radio or the singer was cross-eyed – for whatever reason, these songs were missed. I can’t wait to get to sing these songs again when I take them on tour. It will be wild.”
Accompanying the album will be an hour-long documentary delving deep into the history of soul. Following Barnsey on his road to discovery, the doco shines light on the milestones of the genre as well as those who created them.
Soul Searchin’ drops Friday, June 3. See tour dates below.
