New York rapper Joey Bada$$ has taken to social media to speak out in apparent reference to assault charges against made against him. The charges stem from an alleged backstage altercation with a security guard at Falls Festival in Byron Bay on Friday.
“The crucification of my image has already begun,” Bada$$ tweeted late last night. “Remember don’t believe everything you see or hear. They build u up to tear you down…” It’s seemingly the only public statement on the issue the rapper has made since his arrest.
Bada$$ has been active on socials since the arrest, making posts to Facebook and Instagram promoting the release of his new album, B4.DA.$$, including a short clip shot in Bunbury, WA. He also posted a photo of him performing at last weekend’s Southbound Festival with the caption, “Love the man that I’m becoming.”
Bada$$ was arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm after allegedly punching a security guard in the face at the Byron Bay leg of Falls Festival on Friday night. According to Fairfax, Bada$$ was stopped backstage by security around 8:30pm on Friday as he was about to go on stage.
It’s alleged Bada$$ lashed out at a 20-year-old security guard after he was challenged for credentials. Police confirmed the guard was treated for a broken nose and other facial injuries by paramedics at the scene.
Bada$$ is due to face the charges at Byron Bay Local Court on 19th March. He’s scheduled to perform shows with Run The Jewels in Sydney and Melbourne this week.
