Iowa’s sons of heavy metal Slipknot have released a statement for “maggots and fans around the world” saying they have parted way with drummer Joey Jordison. It’s unknown at this stage whether Jordison quit, was kicked out of the band or the split was mutual.
“It is with great pain but quiet respect that, for personal reasons, Joey Jordison and Slipknot are parting ways. We all wish Joey the best in whatever his future holds,” reads the statement, published on their website. “We understand that many of you will want to know how and why this has come to be, and we will do our best to respond to these questions in the near future.”
Jordison has spent the past few months touring the self-titled album of his other project Scar The Martyr, but spoke to Music Feeds earlier in the year, confirming a new Slipknot record was underway. “There is material written. We’re exchanging songs right now and that’s as far as it is,” he said. “There will be another Slipknot record but good things go to those who wait…”
Slipknot have not released any new material since 2008’s All Hope Is Gone and the band suffered a devastating blow in 2010 when bassist Paul Gray was found dead in a Des Moines hotel room. Slipknot member Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan said earlier this year the band was not emotionally prepared to broach a new record. But the band’s recent statement confirms new Slipknot material for next year.
“It is our love for all of you, as well as for the music we create, that spurs us to continue on and move forward with our plans for releasing new material in the next year,” it reads. “We hope that all of you will come to understand this, and we appreciate your continued support while we plan the next phase of the future of Slipknot.”
