Fans of John Farnham have been given a fright, after a fake news site published a story indicating the Australian treasure may have departed our company for the big farewell tour in the sky.
The fictional report, published last night under the title “John Farnham Found Unresponsive At Thailand Hotel After Consuming…” suggested that Farnsy had collapsed at the Phi Koh Pucket Resort Hotel after eating some bad seafood, and had been rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
‘Witnesses’ apparently confirmed to website Global Associated News that Farnsy had been found unconscious in a pool-side chair after enjoying dinner with friends.
However, Farnsy’s manager has since taken the pressure down. Glenn Wheatley has assured Fairfax that the veteran wasn’t even in Thailand at the time of the report.
“I know where he is, he has the number one album in the country, he’s never been in better health, never been in better spirits,” Wheatley said. “This is incredible, he is nowhere near Thailand. Categorically, he is in rude good health.”
Some rudimentary digging on the Global Associated News site’s webpage also reveals that the story is a big fat phoney.
“This site has been providing smiles to millions of people since 1999 and is loved by countless celebrities who have a great sense of humor,” the fine-print disclaimer reads. “This is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes! (FAKE… THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE!) This story was dynamically generated using a generic ‘template’ and is not factual.”
There’s no indication as to how many people were actually duped by the false news. But the important thing is, Farnsy is still The Voice, try and understand it.
He’s set to be inducted into Victoria’s Music Hall Of Fame this November, alongside AC/DC and and his Two Strong Hearts Live album collaborator, Olivia Newton-John.
