It’s not every day that a recount of votes actually changes the outcome, but thankfully for Kanye West it was an error on behalf of the number crushers over at ARIA that damn near cost him the #1 spot for his latest album Yeezus. As it turns out, a “data error” is to blame for the mishap, which saw an album of country western covers take out pole position.
As per the initial results of last week’s ARIA charts, the top spot was taken out by Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey and their anthology of country western covers on their latest album The Great Country Songbook. However, the powers that be have handed down a statement explaining that “due to a data error discovered after initial publication, this week’s ARIA Albums chart has been recalculated”.
As a result, Cassar-Daley and Harvey were gently nudged down a spot to #2, and Kanye was crowned ruler of the ARIA charts. This will no doubt be a massive relief for the mega star, who has come close to cracking #1 Down Under – both Graduation and Watch The Throne failed to make it all the way, peaking at #2 – making Yeezus his first #1 here.
So we’re sorry Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey, we will let you finish – but Kanye did have the best album of all time. Or this week. Whatever.
