A stack of Aussie musicians have joined Green Music Australia’s push for Aussie gigs and music festivals to do away with disposable plastic water bottles, which are thrown away in their millions at music events each year.
The movement has gained serious momentum since Green Music Australia pushed for Groovin The Moo to ditch plastic cups and bottles earlier this year, and now it’s announced that Killing Heidi and Bernard Fanning will lead the way during its new campaign, Plastic Free July.
They’ll be joined by the likes of All Our Exes Live in Texas, Paul Kelly, Missy Higgins and Ball Park Music, who’ve committed to performing without the aid of disposable plastic water bottles. These artists will now ask for ‘Green Drink Riders’ at gigs and festivals, opting instead for tap water.
“Killing Heidi and I are stoked to make a move towards more sustainable touring,” says Ella Hooper of the campaign. “I encourage all my mates in bands to follow suit and check out Green Music to find out how. Getting rid of single use is the way of the future and we’re so happy to be involved.”
