Melbourne six-piece King Gizzard & Lizard Wizard have announced the new album, Omnium Gatherum. It’s the band’s 20th album in fewer than 10 years.
Omnium Gatherum is King Gizzard’s first record of new music for 2022. Though, the routinely prolific band led by Stu Mackenzie has already released a live album (Live in Brisbane ’21) and a deluxe remix LP (Butterfly 3001) this year.
The band’s previous studio album, Butterfly 3000, came out June 2021. It was one of two studio albums from King Gizzard & Lizard Wizard in 2021; the other, LW, came out in February. As if to account for the unusually long wait, Omnium Gatherum is a double album. Its lead single, ‘The Dripping Tap’, runs for a cool 18 minutes. Listen to ‘The Dripping Tap’, written by Mackenzie and co-vocalist Ambrose Kenny-Smith, below.
Album pre-orders open on Tuesday, 20th March. The album’s official release date is to be confirmed. Omnium Gatherum is coming out via the band’s own KGLW label. It’s their second proper release through the label, after splitting from their long-time home of Flightless Records ahead of Butterfly 3000.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have a mammoth run of overseas shows booked, spanning South, Central and North America and Europe. They played a last minute show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Monday, 7th March, which followed a three-hour marathon set at Melbourne’s Reunion Park on Saturday, 5th March.
