Post-hardcore storytellers La Dispute are officially heading back to Australia, locking in a national headline run this October in support of their latest album, No One Was Driving The Car.
The Michigan five-piece will kick things off at Perth’s Astor Theatre on October 16 before rolling through Frankston, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Newcastle, wrapping up at Brisbane’s Tivoli on October 25. Joining them on all dates are Meanjin/Brisbane noise collective, Special Features.
La Dispute – ‘No One Was Driving The Car’
In a move that feels very on-brand for a band built on community and connection, six of the seven Aussie shows will be all ages (with Melbourne 18+ and Perth licensed / all ages). Vocalist Jordan Dreyer says that accessibility is intentional – a nod to the all-ages venues that shaped the band in their early years in West Michigan and helped spark their own creative path.
The tour celebrates No One Was Driving The Car, released in September 2025 via Epitaph Records – La Dispute’s first album in six years following Panorama. Entirely self-produced and inspired in part by the psychological thriller First Reformed, the record explores modern anxiety, existential drift and life in an increasingly mediated world. Its title was drawn from a news report about a fatal self-driving car crash – a metaphor Dreyer says captures the unsettling sense that much of modern life feels directionless, automated and out of our control.
Musically, the album sharpens the band’s already intense emotional palette – pairing primal vocal eruptions with more refined melodic passages and guitars that cut harder than ever. It was pieced together across multiple locations including Michigan, the UK, Australia and the Philippines, with shifting environments helping reshape the creative process along the way.
Opening each night are Special Features – a Brisbane four-piece known for their chaotic, cathartic live shows that feel somewhere between a noise set and group therapy. With rotating vocalists, zero hierarchy and a debut album due in 2026, they’re rapidly building a reputation as one of Australia’s most visceral underground acts.
