Following an a capella teaser performance at a Las Vegas gig last week, Lana Del Rey debuted her new single, West Coast, during her performance at Coachella 2014 over the weekend. The track saw its official premiere today and comes off her upcoming third studio album, Ultraviolence.
While performing at Las Vegas venue The Chelsea last Friday, Del Rey offered fans a taste of the new single, asking fans if she should really sing it. “Just up to the chorus? No?” she said. “I’ll just sing you a little bit of the verse without the band.” Del Rey then sang a verse unaccompanied:
“Down on the West Coast, they got a saying / If you’re not drinking, then you’re not playing / But you’ve got the music in you, don’t you? / Down on the West Coast, I get this feeling / Like it all could happen / That’s why I’m leaving you“.
The highly anticipated new single was then played in full during the singer’s Coachella festival set, , ahead of it’s official 14th April premiere on Fearne Cotton’s BBC Radio 1 show, to an audience that, as the Daily Mail reports, included Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul and actress Lindsay Lohan.
Back in February, Del Rey let slip to a group of fans that her new album was slated for release on 1st May. The singer has confirmed that the album was produced with Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach, who has previously worked with Dr John, Hanni El Khatib, and Ray LaMontagne.
