Lance Bass Shares Health Update After Diabetes Misdiagnosis

Lance Bass, former NSYNC star, has shared a new health update with his fans following a diabetes diagnosis. Earlier this year, Lance revealed that he had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes during the Covid-19 lockdowns. However, in a recent Instagram reel, he explained a surprising twist in his health journey: he was misdiagnosed and actually had Type 1.5 diabetes.

In a sponsored post for a glucose monitor product, Lance said, “As all of you know, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes a few years back. However, when I was first diagnosed, I had a difficult time getting my glucose levels under control even though I made adjustments to my diet, medication, and workout routine. Things just weren’t adding up.”

He continued, “But, get ready for the real doozy. Because I recently discovered that I was misdiagnosed, and I actually have Type 1.5, or Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults.”

Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA) is not yet recognized as a separate type of diabetes but is said to “straddle” Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, according to Diabetes UK. Researchers are still studying LADA, as symptoms like feeling thirsty and tired are common to both types.

In the video, Lance described using a continuous glucose monitor as a “gamechanger” for managing his symptoms.

In a previous interview with People, the father-of-two emphasized the importance of prioritizing his health. “Exercising is so key right now, but it’s hard for me because of my schedule to get to a gym. So I do have a nice setup at my house and I get 15 minutes here, 20 minutes there,” the 45-year-old shared. “The biggest thing that I’ve learned is to drink tonnes and tonnes of water. You think you’re drinking too much water, (but) you need to drink even more than that.
