Legion Festival Organisers Confirm “Fully Funded” Festival Will Go Ahead In 2017

UPDATE 02/11/16: Legion Festival 2017 has been cancelled.

ORIGINAL STORY:Following on from the news in January that Legion Festival would be postponed until next year, organisers have announced today that the festival is “fully funded” and that the crowd funding campaign will close down.

No longer taking pledges, founder John Sankey said the festival’s Pozible campaign and the support it received made it possible for the festival to secure the funding it needed to go ahead in 2017.

“Given that it took longer than anticipated to lock in a headline act, along with a number of other external forces going on in the industry at the moment, we realized that, even though these issues made it very difficult for us to reach our goal in time, the campaign support had given us all the leverage necessary to move forward and fund and confirm the festival,” he said.

Ticket prices and on-sale dates expected shortly, anyone who pledged through the Pozible campaign will still be recognised as a founding member. At the time of writing, the campaign has received pledges totalling $360,735 with 3 days to go to reach its goal of $3.27 million. It is unclear, at this stage, how organisers have secured the funds to confirm the 2017 event.

Despite the fact the festival will no longer be crowd-funded, Sankey insists that Legion’s ethics of fan support and transparent business practice will be upheld.

“As the founders of this festival, myself, Mark Spillane and Kristie Lawrence are committed to ensuring that we stick to our promise of creating something truly special and unique for the fans and we promise that we will continue to be completely honest and transparent throughout the planning process,” he explained.

With headline acts and more artist still to be announced, the lineup so far included bands such as Lordi, Devil Driver, Frontline Assembly, Devil You Know, and more.

Early bird tickets are available for members now, and you can sign up at the Legion website here.

UPDATE 15/03/16, 12.56pm: According to a statement on the Legion Festival Facebook page, the secured funding is “a result of Legion founders raising private funding.” Read the full statement, here below.
