UPDATE 17/11/16: Leonard Cohen’s cause of death has been revealed by his manager.
ORIGINAL STORY: Legendary Canadian singer-songwriter and poet Leonard Cohen has died at the age of 82.
A statement on his Facebook page confirmed the passing of one of the music industry’s most well-loved and inspirational people.
“It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away,” says the post. “We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries.”
No cause of death was given, but the statement also indicated that a memorial is set to take place in Los Angeles at a date yet to be decided.
Cohen, a Canadian Music Hall Of Fame inductee and a Companion of the Order Of Canada, was one of the most influential songwriters of the ’60s and ’70s. He wrote hundreds of poems and two novels, along with 14 studio albums, the latest of which was 2016’s You Want It Darker, which was released three weeks before his death.
