Liam Gallagher Swears Off Glastonbury For Life

Former Oasis totem and singer with newly-formed Beady Eye, the inimitable Liam Gallagher, has said he is swearing off going to Glastonbury Festival for life. Fans with tickets to this year’s Somerset event are no doubt crying en masse into their lattes.

The News Of The World (via NME) reports that Gallagher the younger is unequivocal in his loathing for the event, taking aim at the festival’s quality of sound, as well as its growing middle-class audience and proliferation of celebrities.

He said he is “never going there again” and that “the sound is really shit and quiet”.

He added that, “now it’s like Bond Street with mud, with loads of celebrities walking around in their boots and umbrellas. I’m not having it.”

It’s not the first time a Gallagher has vented  frustrations at the festival. In 2008, Liam and his brother Noel were unimpressed when fabled rapper Jay-Z headlined the festival’s closing Sunday night, saying the choice of artist was ‘wrong’.

“If it ain’t broke don’t fix it,” Noel Gallagher said. “If you start to break it then people aren’t going to go. I’m sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance… I’m not having hip hop at Glastonbury. It’s wrong.”

In other Oasis news, last week it emerged that impresario and former label boss Alan McGee thought Liam was a common-as-muck drug dealer when he first set on eyes on the singer back in 1993.

“There was this amazing young version of Paul Weller sat there in a light blue Adidas tracksuit,” McGee said of his first impressions of Gallagher. “I assumed he was the drug dealer and that Bonehead, the guitarist, was the singer.”
