Listen: Death Cab Front Man Ben Gibbard’s New Song ‘Ichiro’s Theme’

Last week Music Feeds reported on Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard’s plans to put out a new solo record titled Former Lives later this year. The record will be made up of 12 songs that Gibbard has written over his career but that have remained unreleased.

Consequence Of Sound have posted what may be the first sounds of Gibbard’s upcoming LP, a track titled Ichiro’s Theme. The song pays tribute to professional baseball player Ichiro Suzuki, who was traded today from the Seattle Mariners to the New York Yankees.

Taking to his Twitter account, Gibbard explained that today was an appropriate time to release the track he wrote about the All-Star center fielder some years ago.

“Totally okay with this trade. Thanks for your best years, Ichiro. We will always look back on them fondly. #Mariners #Ichiro I wrote this song a few years ago. Today seems like the best day to share it with you. Thank you so much, Ichiro.”
