Cold War Kids fans, today is your lucky day – the band are streaming their new album, Dear Miss Lonelyhearts, in full just over a week ahead of its local release.
The album contains 10 tracks filled with a huge range of indie electro rock, from the bouncy opening track Lost That Easy to the pretty deep and atmospheric closer Bitter Poem. Dear Miss Lonelyhearts is the follow-up to 2011’s Mine Is Yours and is the first to feature new guitarist Dann Gallucci, who replaced Jonathan Russell earlier this year.
Lead singer Nathan Willett said the record, which was recorded at their Californian home studio with producer Lars Stalfors, is filled with a few new experiments:
“We were shaken up, ready to let certain songs go further than before by trying new styles and arrangements, while keeping others sparse and caring more about the finished product and less about how we got there.”
Willett also told the The Huffington Post the album was inspired by a lead character in a self-examination book:
“Dear Miss Lonelyhearts is taken from a book about an advice columnist who has a crisis about his readers suffering and his inability to truly help them unless he examines himself… The struggle of his character worked their way into many of the songs.”
Cold War Kids have self-confirmed for Splendour In The Grass 2013, so consider this a good time to increase your knowledge. Dear Miss Lonelyhearts is released in Australia 5th April.
