Sydney’s genre-melding, emo three-piece RedHook have shared their new single with us today. ‘Bad Decisions’ is a hooky AF, catchy as velcro banger with painfully relatable lyrics.
On top of the new single, they’ve announced their debut EP and a national tour. Huge.
Vocalist Emmy Mack says the single is a “self-loathing” anthem.
“I always joke to the boys that it’s my theme song.”
“I wrote it when I was feeling depressed as fuck, trapped in a spiral of self-destructive behaviour and making a lot of *checks thesaurus* questionable life choices that only served to intensify my rubbish headspace and feelings of deep self-loathing.”
“[The song is] me reflecting from rock bottom on how on earth I went from being a straight-edge, dux-of-my-Catholic-school goody-two-shoes to feeling like a totally lost and fucked up mess of an adult.”
RedHook recruited the likes of Yours Truly, The Dead Love, Grenade Jumper, FANGZ, Down For Tomorrow and The Last Martyr for those group vocal bits you hear throughout.
It’s almost contradictorily, a massive bop. Have a listen down below.
Along with the new single, RedHook have some seriously good news. After more than three years of stellar singles, they’re going to release their debut EP soon.
The debut EP will also go by the name Bad Decisions. It’ll feature previously released single ‘Cure 4 Psycho’ and is set for release Friday, 23rd April.
They’ll be taking the EP for a spin a week later. Kicking off their national tour in Brisbane, the band will hit up Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Bunbury, and Perth.
You can catch the national tour dates below. Find RedHook’s regional tour dates here — the band is kicking things off in Brisbane at The Other Festival tomorrow.
