Looks Like Silverchair And Powderfinger Are Not Supporting AC/DC

A few days ago news emerged that AC/DC had allegedly approached Silverchair, Powderfinger and Jet to support on their Australian Rock Or Bust stadium tour, but two of the bands have already dispelled those rumours.

Representatives for both Silverchair and Powderfinger have denied rumours started by anonymous Triple M “sources” that they will be joining the Aussie veterans on tour.

Speaking to The Music, former Powderfinger bassist John Collins said, “From my point of view, my management or agent has not spoken to me, and I was with Haugy [guitarist Ian Haug] last night — I was the one who told Haugy about it — so I would say it’s a big fat lie, if you want my opinion.”

He couldn’t confirm whether or not management had been approached but he added, “It hasn’t been flagged with the band, let’s put it that way.”

A representative from Daniel Johns‘ label also confirmed that Silverchair were a no-go. “All the guys are huge AC/DC fans but Daniel is completely engaged with his new solo album release this year, so Silverchair definitely won’t be doing these shows,” he said.

While it is the 20th anniversary of the band’s iconic Frogstomp record this year, Daniel Johns is gearing up to release his first solo album Talk and will showcase it at Vivid Live this month so a Silverhcair reunion is likely far from his mind at this point.

Meanwhile, Jet have thrown fuel on the fire by posting a picture of the AC/DC tour poster on their Facebook with the caption, “Rumours?”

Jet broke up in 2012 after three albums, their latest being 2009’s Shaka Rock.

They’re either a shoe-in to support AC/DC or they’re having a little bit of fun at the expensive of plenty of amped-up fans. Here’s hoping it’s the former.
