Maria Bamford Announces 2024 Australian Tour

Veteran American stand-up comedian Maria Bamford has announced an Australian tour, set to take place in July 2024. It marks her first time in Australia since 2019, when she performed exclusively at that year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival with her show The Irrelevant Redundancy. As such, the tour will mark Bamford’s first full-scale tour of Australia since 2011.

Since Bamford was last in Australia five years ago, she has continued to work extensively in both stand-up comedy and television. She released a new special entitled Weakness is the Brand in 2020, and released a new album called CROWD-PLEASER! in October of 2023. On TV, she has lent voices to animated shows such as Big Mouth, Rick & Morty, Tuca & Bertie and Human Resources. She has also acted on shows like Everything’s Gonna Be Okay and hosted her own interview show, What’s Your Ailment?!.

Bamford also recently released her debut book: A memoir entitled Sure, I’ll Join Your Cult. Subtitled as a “memoir of mental illness and the quest to belong anywhere”, the book details Bamford’s experiences with eating disorders, hypomania and sex addiction amongst others. It became a New York Times Bestseller upon its release in September 2023, and was also released as an audiobook read by Bamford herself.

A pre-sale for Bamford’s Australian tour will commence tomorrow (February 7th) at 9am local time, which can be registered for here. The general sale for the tour will follow on Friday February 9th, again at 9am local time. A full run of dates and ticketing information can be found below.
