Soundwave-bound shock rocker Marilyn Manson has confirmed that the follow-up to his well-received 2012 LP, Born Villain, “is prepared for landing”. The singer updated fans on the status of his hotly anticipated ninth full-length album while tweeting about his role on FX biker series Sons of Anarchy.
Manson started production on the forthcoming album earlier this year, with Stolen Babies drummer Gil Sharone tweeting back in February that he was contributing to the new record. In January, the drummer had posted a video of himself in the studio captioned, “If you could only hear what I’m playing over.”
The first piece of music from the new album is already being heard by fans of new WGN fantasy drama series Salem. The opening theme of the show, titled Cupid Carries A Gun, was composed by Manson and producer Tyler Bates. Speaking recently to The Hollywood Reporter Manson confirmed that the eerie, atmospheric, country-style composition “was the last track we just finished for my new album”.
Manson’s ninth album follows Born Villain, which debuted in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart as well as earning the singer his fourth Grammy nomination for lead single, No Reflection. The album’s release was preceded by an appearance at the 2012 instalment of Soundwave Festival – his first at the event.
After confirming last month that 2015 headliners Faith No More and Slipknot will be exclusive to the festival, Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah also recently revealed that Manson could potentially be added to that list. “At this point [Marilyn Manson is] festival only,” the promoter told a Twitter follower.
The singer has recently been keeping busy with his recurring role as a “white supremacist prison shot-caller” on Sons Of Anarchy. Manson previously made appearances on Showtime‘s Californication, the Sundance Channel‘s Wrong Cops, HBO‘s Eastbound & Down, and ABC‘s Once Upon A Time.
