Sun Kil Moon frontman, Mark Kozelek has been accused of sexual assault by three different women, as reported by Pitchfork. The allegations span three years, between 2014 and 2017.
One of Mark Kozelek’s alleged victims, Sarah Catherine Golden claims she went back to his hotel room after a Sun Kil Moon show in November of 2017. Pitchfork reports that Golden went to smoke on the balcony of the hotel room before Kozelek joined her outside, where she says he was only wearing a T-shirt and underwear.
Golden says the pair went back inside, where he got into one of two beds in the room and asked her to lay down and stay the night. “His whole demeanour just changed,” she said.
Golden says he then got up, pushed the two beds together, and laid down on top of her.
“At that point, I was kind of in shock,” she told Pitchfork. “I told him I really needed to get a cab, if he could please just call for it.”
She says Mark Kozelek then called the cab before allegedly beginning to masturbate and grab her body, clothes, and trying to kiss her. Golden alleges he forcibly pulled her hand in to make contact with his penis.
Pitchfork spoke with another alleged victim, identified under a pseudonym, Andrea. Andrea claims that Kozelek exposed himself to her in September of 2014, without her consent. The incident reportedly happened in a hotel room in North Carolina when the victim was 19-years-old.
Andrea says he took a bath with the door to the room open before proceeding to walk around the room in a towel and then getting into bed.
Andrea says he dropped his towel and, “pretty much just pounced on me.” She alleges he then had intercourse with her.
“He was on top, and I think I was visibly frozen, because afterwards he was like, are you OK?,” said Andrea.
“Because I was stuck in this hotel room with him, I didn’t have the courage to be like, no, that wasn’t OK, and that’s not what I wanted to do.”
The victim shared that after the incident, they shared a long-distance relationship for three months. She says that while some sexual encounters were consensual, “the lines [were] really blurred,” in others. She detailed public sex encounters where she felt uncomfortable and pressured.
“I feel like our sexual relationship, every encounter was him trying to find another thing he could do, and not in a way where he asks for consent or permission,” she told Pitchfork.
The third alleged victim is a female musician who asked Pitchfork to stay anonymous. She said Mark Kozelek invited her and another musician to his hotel room following a festival in 2014, where he acted inappropriately.
At this stage, Mark Kozelek is yet to respond to the allegations.
