Members Of HAIM, TV On The Radio Form Supergroup With Scarlett Johansson

Actress Scarlett Johansson is going “super pop” fronting a new all girl supergroup called The Singles featuring Este Haim of HAIM and singer-songwriters Holly Miranda, Julia Haltigan and Kendra Morris. The Singles have also shared their first, ah, single, the saccharine electro-pop track Candy, which was produced by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek.

“The idea was to write super-pop dance music written and performed by girls,” Johansson explained, reports Rolling Stone. She cites Grimes, the Bangles, and the Go-Go’s as major influences. “I wanted it to be like those bands: ultra-pop but also a little ironic, a little in on the joke.”

Scarlett Johansson’s previous musical endeavours have included an album of Tom Waits covers, which Sitek also produced, plus contributions to a Serge Gainsbourg tribute album and collaborations with the likes of Pete Yorn and Massive Attack.

Candy is due out via Sitek’s own Federal Prism label. Listen to the track below and pre-order it here.
