Say hello to Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama, feminist and First Lady of funky town. Mrs. POTUS has teamed up with streaming juggernaut Spotify to curate a playlist of “lady power” themed bangerz to help mark International Day Of The Girl.
The United Nations-designated holiday – observed on Sunday, 11th October – is designed to promote awareness of gender inequality around the world, and #FLOTUS has helped spread the message of sisterhood by grooving to the empowering tunes of Beyoncé, Demi Lovato and Mary J. Blige.
Mrs. Obama’s DJ stint also saw pop hits Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys and Bang Bang by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj get a spin, alongside TLC’s No Scrubs and Destiny’s Child’s Survivor.
There were also a handful of older, more soulful musical gems from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and Billie Holiday.
Mrs. O even walked on the wild side by including one song with an explicit language warning: Confident by Demi Lovato.
Altogether, the First Lady’s musical taste is as presidential as her hubby’s, as evidenced by Barack’s own Spotify debut earlier this year.
President Obama’s #POTUSPlaylist featured a similarly diverse collection of classic soul and blues tunes mixed with modern pop and R&B hits – and of course, plenty of Queen Bey.
As well as dropping beats to celebrate International Day Of The Girl, Mrs. Obama was also busy raising awareness about her Let Girls Learn campaign, which aims to expand access to education for more than 62 million girls around the world, as well as encourage American girls to take advantage of their own opportunities.
