Sydney three-piece, Middle Kids have shared another slice of their forthcoming album with us. They’ve also added new shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
The new single, ‘Cellophane (Brain)’ is absolutely stunning and carries on that knack the band’s Hannah Joy has for hitting us in the feels with her vocals alone.
It’s only backed up by the instruments that build and lull with Joy’s lyrical content.
“I loved the way cellophane looked but I hated the way it crunched and creased in my hands,” says Middle Kids’ Hannah Joy.
“It’s one of those weird things you remember sometimes… I’m not even sure if cellophane is an exact metaphor for my mind but it feels connected to the song for me.
“When I consciously started taking note of what was going on in my brain it was usually anxious and negative,” she continued, likening her mind to a minefield of fear and sadness.
“But to change one’s thinking is incredibly hard. It’s an inner journey with little extrinsic reward or accountability.”
Middle Kids have also announced new shows in Sydney and Melbourne after their first dates in the two cities sold out.
They’ll now be performing in Melbourne on Saturday, 22nd May and in Sydney on Saturday, 29th May.
The new album, Today We’re the Greatest is due to arrive Friday, 19th March. Go hype yourself up for it below and check out the tracklisting and artwork.
