Missy Higgins Announces Australian Orchestral Concert Tour

Never one to toot her own horn, Missy Higgins has enlisted an entire orchestra to do it for her.

Several, in fact.

The beloved Aussie troubadour has announced plans to fuse her live band with some of Australia’s leading symphony ensembles for a handful of very special concerts at the end of this year.

The tour will see Higgins reconfigure her iconic hits like Scar, The Special Two and Steer with up to 60 of this country’s best orchestral musicians from The SSO, QSO, MSO, WASO & ASO, as well as unveiling some brand new material that she’s been working on for the majority of this year.

“I’ve had lots of invitations to play shows with orchestras over the years but I always said no to them”, the Melbourne-based singer/songwriter explains.

“I guess when I was younger I was just intimidated by the challenge of reworking my songs on that scale. Then last year I got asked to do a show with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in this incredible outdoor location called Skyfields in the forest outside Devonport. I’ve always liked new challenges so I figured that was a perfect opportunity to push myself out of my comfort zone and try something different.

“It was an amazing experience. The songs came to life in new and unexpected ways when we introduced all those other instruments so I decided to try something similar this summer in other parts of Australia.”

Higgins will be hitting the road this November and December with orchestral tour stops planned for Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.

She’ll be supported on all dates by Melbourne folk artist Ben Abraham, with a very special guest for the Brisbane show in the form of recently-reformed iconic Aussie act George.
