MJ Lenderman To Headline Final-Ever Meadow Festival In 2025

Meadow Festival has shared both good and bad news regarding its future. The good news is that the regional Victorian festival will indeed return in 2025, announcing its headliner as American indie singer-songwriter MJ Lenderman. The bad news, however, is that the 2025 instalment will be its last.

“At the end of a circle, the time would always come for us to make space for the next audially obsessed up-starts to start-up something right where we’ve left off,” said the festival’s organisers in a statement explaining their decision to end the festival on its 10th go-around – a number they describe as “full circle”.

“So, when you’re ready, come and grab the reins that steer us down the long, windy, unpredictable, never-ending always-bending track that all good festivals follow to create the special-est of occasions for sensory indulging celebration. We’ll be there.”

Lenderman is returning to Australia for his first headlining tour, which is to be announced by promoter Mistletone in the coming weeks. The appearance at Meadow is the first date to be officially announced. The tour will take place just over a year after Lenderman made his Australian debut, where he pulled double duty by playing guitar in Wednesday and opening the band’s headlining shows as a solo artist. His fourth album, Manning Fireworks, was released in September 2024.

Meadow last ran in March 2023, with headlining performances from Kurt Vile, Black Midi and Cash Savage & The Last Drinks. The festival did not run this year, with organisers saying it was “time to take some time” and that “all the signs suggest[ed] it’s the right time for a little break”.
