The electronic mastermind Moby has announced that he will be returning to speakers, headphones and airwaves all over the world via his forthcoming album Innocents. Set for release Friday, 27th September, Innocents boasts an impressive list of collaborators and saw the godfather of modern EDM tag an outside producer for the first time in his career.
Though he has been known to fuse his musical abilities with other artists in the past, Innocents is by far Moby’s most collaborative effort to date. It’s been confirmed that Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips has been involved with the record as well as alt-rock legend Mark Lanegan, the Al Spx fronted Cold Specks were also included as well as Skylar Grey who rose to mainstream status through her co-writing, and subsequent performance of Eminem and Rihanna’s Love The Way You Lie.
At the helm in the studio was Mark “Spike” Stent, a friend of Moby’s who happens to have a very impressive list of collaborations himself. Spike has previously worked with artists such as Madonna, U2, Muse, Björk, and Massive Attack. With such a resume, you’d expect big production on Innocents, however, the pair took the road less travelled, using lo-fi and analog gear only.
The record is said to be an epic, emotive affair, which harks back to the days of the uber successful Play. The first single from the record A Case For Shame features Cold Specks, which you can listen to below.
