Moby Once Tried To Pash Lana Del Rey & She Shut Him Down In The Classiest Way Ever

Believe it or not, but Moby once scored a hot date with a pre-fame Lana Del Rey.

The electro lord has dished on their romantic encounter in his freshly minted autobiography, Then It All Fell Apart, in a delicious anecdote which, if you’re already a Lana stan, will only make you love her even more.

The year was 2006. Moby was kind of a big deal, like feuding with Eminem, befriending David Bowie and dating Hollywood A-Listers big, and our girl Lana was still an unknown 21-year-old popstar wannabe going under the monicker of Lizzy Grant.

The pair apparently met at New York City bar, and Moby invited Lizzy for a dinner date at his new luxury apartment, which apparently had no less than five stories, each with its own balcony.

Here’s what happened once they sat down to eat (in Moby’s own words – via Vulture):

During dinner she told me she was a musician so I asked, “Will you play me some of your music?”

“Sure, do you have a piano?”

“Yes, back on the second floor,” I said.

“Floors in an apartment.” She shook her head. “Moby you know you’re the man.”

“Ha, thanks,” I said.

“No, not like that. You’re a rich WASP from Connecticut and you live in a five-level penthouse. You’re ‘The Man.’ As in, ‘stick it to The Man.’ As in the person they guillotine in the revolution.”

I didn’t know if she was insulting me but I decided to take it as a compliment.

Then, later in the evening, Moby slid in for a smooch and Lizzy swiftly put the brakes on the makeout session:

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“I like you. But I hear you do this with a lot of people.”

I wanted to lie, to tell her that I didn’t, that I was chaste, sane, and ethical. But I said nothing.

“I’d like to see you again,” she said.

“Me too.”

I walked her downstairs to the twenty-ninth floor and kissed her good night at the bank of the elevators.

This wasn’t how I imagined the night ending. I’d assumed that we would end up christening my new apartment with vodka and sex. But to my surprise, this was almost nicer.

And that was the story of how a pre-fame Lana Del Rey shut Moby down in the most Lana Del Rey way ever — and, apparently, he was into it.

Moby’s new memoir also spills deets on his relationships with actresses Natalie Portman and Christina Ricci, his feud with Eminem, his eventual friendships with his childhood heroes like David Bowie and Joe Strummer and more, and you can grab it right here (all profits go towards animal rights initiatives).
