Molly Meldrum has hinted that classic Aussie television show Countdown could be making a return to our screens.
The show hasn’t aired since 1987 but former host Meldrum has made a pretty strong hint that it’s going to make a return.
“There is a possibility there will be a new Countdown. All young performers, all young presenters,” Meldrum told Channel 10’s Studio 10.
“It’ll hopefully be in the same timeslot, 6-7 on the Sunday night, repeated on the Saturday. I think we need it now.”
The show would air on the ABC, the same station that aired an NYE Countdown Live special last year.
In 2016, Australian entrepreneur Ron Creevey said that he was working on a Countdown-style show but nothing ever eventuated. It’s unknown whether the return Meldrum is talking about is connected at all.
Meldrum didn’t say what the timeline for the show’s return is but let’s hope there’s not too long a countdown.
