Hauled up in their castle high atop Mount Space Rock, Muse have been scheming a new stage design in the most Muse way possible, thus effectively reaching a point in history we’re calling Peak Muse.
In a recent interview, the band have laid out the scheme, revealing a plan to perform on a stage made entirely of magnets, allowing the band to actually levitate during their sets.
Speaking at the MUSEXPO Europe music & media conference recently (via Music Week), Muse’s tour director Glen Rowe said, “We want to do a stage made of magnets so the band can levitate on other magnets.”
What may seem like a comment made in passing is anything but, with Rowe adding that it’s ideas like this one that “keep me awake every night of my life”.
However, Muse do know their limitations as mere musicians, and while they have the ideas sorted, they’ll need some help with the actual science of it all, so Rowe has officially put the call out, saying, “If there are any magnet technicians out there, please come and see me because that’s what we’re trying to achieve.”
Muse are all about an authentic experience at their live shows, and have built a reputation for going above and beyond with their tours. For the shows supporting their new album Drones, the band filled the air of each venue with actual drones, though that didn’t necessarily go to plan.
Their last run of shows in Australia featured 140 crew members, 26 equipment trucks, bomb-sized pyrotechnics and a 333kg robot named Charles. So, f*ck it, we’re on board with a levitating band too…
