Musicians have sent their love and thoughts to the victims of today’s Boston’s marathon bombing. Dozens of recording artists, including some who were involved in the event themselves and others who call Boston home, have been taking to social media to express their condolences and to reach out to fans and loved ones worried for their safety.
New Kids On The Block member Joey McIntyre, who was a participant in the marathon, tweeted that he finished the race only a few minutes before the explosions occurred:
“There was an explosion by the finish line about 5 minutes after I finished- I’m ok but I’m sure there are many hurt.”
McIntyre’s concerned NKOTB bandmate Donnie Wahlberg went to Twitter asking for confirmation that McIntyre was OK, and urged those who knew fans of Joey that were attending the marathon to check on their friends’ well-being:
“Please reach out if you hear that @joeymcintyre is ok!!!!! Please say a prayer for everyone in Boston!
“Check in on all your friends who’re fans of Joe Mac. Knowing BH’s the way we do, I’m sure some were out to support Joe today. #PrayForBoston”
Meanwhile a handful of Boston bands have offered up their condolences with local acts Dropkick Murphys, Godsmack, Guster, Pixies and Grizzly Bear, who have family ties in Boston, all tweeting in support of their home city.
Just a few of the other musicians and bands to send their sympathies via Twitter include Paramore, Justin Timberlake, Garbage, Alicia Keys and Willie Nelson.
Early this morning Australian time 2 explosions occurred during the Boston Marathon. The blasts have left at least 3 people dead, with 1 thought to be an 8-year-old boy. Over 100 people have been injured, with at least 15 left in a critical condition, 8 of whom are believed to be children. The Herald Sun reports that there is footage of the bombs being planted.
