Musicians Who Can Teach Us How To Keep The Band Together

Jerk move: Thinking you’re the bigger musician or celebrity than your bandmate. And telling them.

Case in point: The Rolling Stones. In 1984, Mick Jagger got back to his hotel after a wild night of partying and dialled drummer Charlie Watts‘ room, saying, “Is that my drummer? Why don’t you get your arse down here?” The normally quiet and affable Watts reportedly shaved, put on a suit and tie and came downstairs and punched Jagger in the face so hard he nearly fell out a window before saying, “Don’t ever call me ‘your drummer’ again. You’re my fucking singer.”

The right way: Bono. Say what you will about Bono, but the U2 frontman, despite being about a bajillion times more famous than his bandmates, treats the band like a democracy and has never attempted to have a musical career apart from them.
