My Morning Jacket’s Jim James To Release Solo Album In 2013

My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James has told Rolling Stone that his solo record is “done” and he believes “it’s gonna come out in early February of next year”.

No title or tracklisting is available yet, but James is apparently planning to take the material on the road, with some longtime friends from his hometown of Kentucky making up his backing band.

James also told Rolling Stone that fans shouldn’t expect a record that sounds like a My Morning Jacket spin-off.

“It’s got some mellow stuff on there, but it’s also got some really different stuff”, he said.

“I’m really proud of it. I think it’s got some different soundscapes that I’ve been into that may have been hidden on some Jacket records.”

James has recorded solo music before but never a full-length album.  His last solo effort was a tribute EP to the late Beatles member George Harrison, under the alias of Yim Yames.
