A bootlegged two-minute snippet of a Kanye West track titled All Day has found its way online. West spoke of the track during an interview with GQ last month, reciting several lyrics featured in the leaked clip and implying that the track would be the first single taken from his new album.
Speaking to GQ, West said he first intended for his Yeezus follow-up to be an album of “beautiful songs” that show off his musicianship, but changed direction after recording “a new song that’s so good that the album has to be balanced against it,” comparing the track to 2011’s Niggas in Paris.
The rapper also likened the lyrics to those of Niggas in Paris collaborator Jay-Z. “I say, ‘All day, nigga, it’s Ye, nigga / Shopping for the winter, it’s just May, nigga / Ball so hard, man, this shit cray, nigga / You ain’t getting money unless you got eight figures‘. Right? Jay would have said that.”
“And then eventually I would have came in with, like, whatever I come in with. But the balance of a meal is that when people walk in, they want water first. People weren’t getting water first on Yeezus,” he added, referring to his abrasive and controversial sixth album released last year.
At the time of the GQ interview, West claimed that he hoped to get one of the tracks from the new album “out in the next couple of weeks.” While no further details of a single release have been revealed, readers can check out the clip of All Day, complete with bootlegger-coughing, below.
Back in April, West postponed his Australian tour due to “unexpected timing requirements” to finish his next album, later telling GQ that the new album would be released “most likely in September” though he claimed he hadn’t made a final decision about the record’s release date.
