Earlier this year, Nick Cave live-streamed a solo piano show of his, titled Idiot Prayer. Now, the much acclaimed performance is getting an extended cinematic release.
In addition to the cinematic release of Idiot Prayer, it is also set for release as a live album. This means that it’ll be Cave’s first live album since 2013’s Live from KCRW.
“The film ‘Idiot Prayer’ evolved from my ‘Conversations With…’ events. I loved playing deconstructed versions of my songs at these shows, distilling them to their essential forms,” Cave said in a press statement.
“I felt I was rediscovering the songs all over again, and started to think about going into a studio and recording these reimagined versions at some stage – whenever I could find the time.
“Then, the pandemic came – the world went into lockdown, and fell into an eerie, self-reflective silence. It was within this silence that I began to think about the idea of not only recording the songs, but also filming them.”
Idiot Prayer will be receiving its cinematic release on Thursday, 5th November, with tickets available to purchase from Thursday, 10th September. Two weeks after that, it will be released as a live double album – on vinyl as well – on Friday, 20th September, with all 22 tracks.
