After spending much of the last few years sounding pretty fed up with the modern music industry, Nine Inch Nails might finally be gearing up for their next era.
In a new chat with Consequence tied to the band being crowned 2025 Live Act Of The Year, frontman Trent Reznor confirmed that brand new NIN music is officially back on the agenda – and not just as a vague “maybe one day” idea. According to Reznor, “the fuse has been lit”.
Nine Inch Nails – ‘The Hand That Feeds’
That’s a pretty major tonal shift from where his head was at a year ago, when he openly vented about how cooked the music industry feels right now – from streaming economics to music being treated like background noise instead of the main event. At the time, the future of new Nine Inch Nails material felt… uncertain, at best.
Fast forward to now, and things look very different. Reznor credits the band’s mammoth Peel It Back tour – which has been widely praised as one of the most intense and visually arresting live shows in years – along with their recent work on the TRON: Ares soundtrack, for reigniting that creative spark.
“We are working on new stuff and we’re excited to work on it,” Reznor revealed. “We are prioritising working on Nine Inch Nails over just taking on every single thing that comes up… the difference between now and a year ago is the fuse has been lit and the desire is there.”
In the immediate future, NIN will roll out a fresh North American leg of the global Peel It Back tour and hit Coachella under the very on-brand alias Nine Inch Noize.
As for Australia? No dates just yet – but if new music really is cooking, we’re officially putting this one in the “do not rule anything out” basket.
