No Sidewaves For Adelaide In 2015

AJ Maddah has confirmed there will be no Soundwave sideshows, aka Sidewaves, coming to Adelaide in 2015. Having recently stated the South Australian capital was looking doubtful to host Sidewaves next year, the promoter has now informed one of his Twitter followers that there indeed “won’t be any” Adelaide Sidewaves.

Though Maddah had previously indicated that Adelaide Sidewaves would be “logistically possible” next year, he was adamant that it would depend on Soundwave ticket sales. In past years, Adelaide often missed out on Sidewaves due to issues surrounding travel and accommodation caused by the Clipsal 500, according to the promoter. Last month Maddah said that, now that the festival has shifted away from Clipsal weekend, SA Sidewaves “[depend] on how well the festival sells in Adelaide”.

The lack of 2015 Sidewaves in Adelaide most likely means that the 2015 Soundwave Festival is not selling enough tickets to justify sideshows but the promoter has not explicitly stated why there won’t be any Adelaide Sidewaves next year.

Meanwhile, the promoter had indicated that Sidewaves for Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane will be decided later this month, though some bands will be festival-exclusive. Among the Soundwave performers that won’t be appearing at any sideshows are headliners Faith No More and Slipknot, and Maddah has indicated that “a few others” will be added to the list. The promoter recently told one Marilyn Manson fan that though he is unsure, “At this point [Manson is] festival only.”

While things are bleak for Adelaide on the Sidewaves front, Maddah recently confirmed that New Zealand will receive “a few” sideshows during the 2015 tour and possibly even “a mini fest done by [a] NZ promoter.” The promoter had previously spoken of a possible expansion into New Zealand.
