Olivia Dean Takes Out triple j’s Hottest 100 Of 2025

The votes are in, the speakers are blown, and the group chats are still arguing – Olivia Dean has officially taken out triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2025, with ‘Man I Need’ crowned Australia’s favourite song of the year.

After 2.1 million votes were cast across the country, Dean’s win capped off a massive year – and a massive countdown – with the British soul-pop star appearing a whopping five times across the list, from ‘Lady Lady’ at #62 all the way up to the top gong. The victory also marks a historic hat-trick, with women now taking out the #1 spot three years in a row.

Hot on her heels was Keli Holiday at #2 with the euphoric ‘Dancing2’, while WA icon Tame Impala landed at #3 with ‘Dracula’. One of the biggest moments of the day belonged to Melbourne upstarts Playlunch, who rocketed from Unearthed straight into Hottest 100 folklore with their ‘bogan-funk’ banger ‘Keith’ at #4.

Australian artists had a massive showing this year, with 54 local tracks making the countdown – more than half the list. triple j’s audience once again proved they love backing homegrown talent, off the back of a year that also included the Hottest 100 of Australian Songs, One Night Stand and the station’s 50th birthday celebrations.

A total of 26 artists made their Hottest 100 debut, including eight Aussie acts, while 18–29-year-olds remained the biggest voting demographic. Nearly 40,000 individual tracks received votes.

In a fun flex for local talent, all four Like A Version covers that landed in the countdown were by Australian artists – including versions from Keli Holiday, Beddy Rays, The Dreggs and Playlunch.

When it comes to domination, Olivia Dean and Spacey Jane tied for the most appearances, with five songs each. Spacey Jane also claimed another win, with If That Makes Sense named the top album of the countdown.

Australian hip hop royalty Hilltop Hoods quietly reclaimed their long-held crown too, now officially holding the record for the most Hottest 100 entries of all time, with 27 tracks featured since their debut in 2003.

If you’re still recovering, don’t stress – triple j will roll out the Hottest 200 from Tuesday to Friday, before counting down the full list next Saturday, January 31 from 10am local time.

But for now, congrats to Olivia Dean, to Australian music having a monster year, and to everyone who spent their Saturday glued to the radio arguing about rankings like it’s an Olympic sport.
